I painted near the Crescent Knoll Overlook – great view of the dolomite glade. The glade is blooming with all kinds of beautiful wildflowers; purple and white coneflower, tickseed, larkspur (I think) among many others. This is an oil painting on 8×16 panel. I set up in the shade near the overlook and looked through to the sunlit field of flowers backed by a wooded ridge. The hiking trail goes along the glade and provides some gorgeous views. If you go, pick-up a map (you can get one at the Visitor’s Center at the entrance to the reserve). You’ll hike at least 2-1/2 to 3 miles round trip so make sure you have the proper gear – good shoes (the trail is gravel in places), water, sunscreen or a hat, and some protection against biting insects. It’s worth the trek.
