Faust Park

View from Governor Bates House

View from Governor Bates House

Well, I painted Saturday with a small group of dedicated plein air painters.  We were behind Gov. Bates’ House at Faust Park in Chesterfield, MO.  Although this scene was beautiful it didn’t really call to me, but I was dithering around trying to choose something, so I finally just settled!  Struggled through the whole thing and ended up working on it after I got home – still not sure I’m happy.  The background hills/trees were not this colorful, but the painting didn’t really start to work until Tom suggested purple!  I think he was half kidding, but it helped me finish the piece.  I initially planned to wipe it off… still thinking about it. The day was gorgeous and this is a peaceful spot to paint. Thanks to everyone who painted and critiqued – sometimes you need a little help from your friends.
