Castor Bean Plant

Castor Bean Plant

Some of the MOPAPA gang and I painted in my friend Jan’s amazing garden yesterday.  The sky was overcast for the most part, and the day was hot and extremely humid.  I couldn’t believe all the colors in this plant. Apparently the pink flowers are the female and the white flowers are the male. This doesn’t really look like a plein air painting, but it is.  I guess the flat light and the zoomed in composition made me focus more on the patterns and colors of the leaves, stems and flowers. I really enjoyed studying this amazing plant and painting with this talented group.
