Still Life with Anchovies and Chives

Anchovies and Chives

Anchovies and Chives

Tom is learning to make sushi, so he and I visited some Asian markets on Olive street in St. Louis yesterday. I found these beautiful flowering chives and some dried anchovies there. Some of the products they carry are fascinating and strange to us and we wanted to try almost everything. The painting is an 8×10 oil on panel. I tried to keep the palette fairly cool and neutral using a few spots of warm color to accent the cools. He made the sushi last night and it was beautiful and delicious…I might ask him to sacrifice some of them for a painting in the future.
