I painted with MOPAPA at Shaw Nature Reserve yesterday. I tried a Richeson pre-toned board with the umber wash background. Not being used to painting on such a slick surface, I struggled. Some of the other painters said they love a slick support (some very excellent painters, I might add). They suggested I use less medium (I’m currently using walnut oil). I thought the paint might sink into the board, but it looks very juicy and has good gloss 24 hours later. I can’t say that I will use them again, although in all fairness I should give them another try. The surface feels like eggshell to the touch and the boards are lightweight. I wiped out quite a bit and lost the contrast in the piece, but I can’t blame the panel for that ;). I think maybe a lighter toned board with a warm, transparent wash would work better for me outdoors. The painting is an 11×14 oil.
