Sandhill Cranes

Crane Choreography

This a drawing I made from my photo references taken during a trip to the Platte River in Nebraska this March. Tom and I went there to see the Sandhill Crane migration – an annual Spring event. We’ve wanted to make this trip for sometime, so it was exciting to finally go. The cranes are fascinating to watch. Their morning and evening flights are an awe-inspiring sight to see and to hear. We learned a lot about the birds by visiting the Audubon Center  and the Crane Foundation between Kearney and Grand Island. I would urge anyone, bird-lover or no to experience this just once. This piece is mixed media (graphite, colored pencil and acrylics) on archival mat board and measures roughly 21×23. The original and prints will be available for sale on in the near future.
